Sun Flower Meal

Whole sunflower seed can be feed to dairy cows as a fat supplement to the diet.
Cottonseed has become the oilseed of choice as a fat supplement partially due to location of production and transportation costs.




Cottonseed has approximately 17 percent fat content seed while oil-type sunflower seed is 40 percent.
Sunflower can be used without any processing of the seeds.
Sunflower meal is one of the major protein meals used for livestock feeding and particularly for ruminant diets.
It is generally a valuable and safe product, whose protein, fiber and oil contents are highly variable and driven by variations of the oil extraction process. Its protein content ranges from 23% DM for some non-dehulled, mechanically-extracted meals, to more than 40% for highly decorticated.
